LC Coreopsis '23 Bench

Loads Collection X Converse Architects

LC Coreopsis ’23 Bench is the first model in a unique series of seating furniture designed by architect Machiel Hopman for Loads Collection in collaboration with Studio Claudy Jongstra and the Roots Foundation. The series is constructed from 100% circular and bio-based materials using the traditional crafts of plant-based dyeing, carpentry, and upholstery.

Recycled window frames, sourced through the Velux Take-back service, form the structure of the bench. The cushions, with 100% circular filling from Auping, are upholstered with biodynamic Egyptian cotton, grown and woven on the Sekem biodynamic farms in the north-eastern Nile Delta of Egypt. The warm ochre tones of the upholstery are derived from the 2023 harvest of biodynamic coreopsis flowers from Loads Collection Partner, Entheos biodynamic farm in Lerín, Spain.

LC Coreopsis '23 Bench premiered in 2024 at the ROOTS Exhibition by Simone van Es during Salone del Mobile and Dutch Design Week, and was nominated for a Green Product Award.

'Risco' Shepherd's Hat

Loads Collection X Maleza Hatmakers Madrid

Maleza Hatmakers is an artisanal hat atelier founded by Myrte Sara Huyts and Javier Reta Gallego in Madrid. Each hat is handmade from start to finish using traditional and experimental techniques.

The 'Risco' Shepherd's Hats, created by Maleza Hatmakers in collaboration with Loads Collection, are composed of Spanish Merino wool felt and dyed by Studio Claudy Jongstra with biodynamic coreopsis (red/orange), sunflower (beige), and woad (blue) plants grown on Entheos biodynamic farm in Lerín, Spain and Odin biodynamic farm De Beersche Hoeve in Oostelbeers, The Netherlands.

The 'Risco' (Spanish for 'rock') Shepherd's Hat is a versatile, sturdy hat that symbolizes the shepherd - one who watches over and protects their flock from a nearby rocky outcropping.

Studying the shapes of shepherd hats in archival photographs, Maleza Hatmakers found that regardless of the region, each hat appeared weathered, having lost some of its original shape, now taking on a more organic, round form, resembling a skull. Modeled to adapt to the nomadic life of a shepherd, the hat can be worn with the brim up or down to provide shade from the sun or shelter from the rain.

This hat is exclusively available at the Art Room of See All This magazine
