The LC Ottoman honors craftsmanship and sustainability with its robust geometric form and refined patchwork finish. From the biodynamic Sekem cotton, dyed with natural pigments by Studio Claudy Jongstra, to the circular frame made of SAM-Pure board material, this piece celebrates nature’s beauty and purity as a timeless and conscious alternative to fast-furniture.

Designer Machiel Hopman deliberately chose a pure, robust geometric form to optimize the strength and beauty of the pristine materials. This minimalist design lets the natural texture of Sekem cotton and depth of biodynamic colors speak for themselves, while refined detailing of seams and patchwork offers subtle contrast. This combination of simplicity and craftsmanship creates furniture that is both timeless and distinctive—functional while telling a story about material, craftsmanship, and sustainability.

Biodynamic Egyptian Cotton

100% Demeter-certified Egyptian cotton grown by Loads Partner, Sekem, on their 70-hectare biodynamic farm about 60 kilometers northeast of Cairo, Egypt. Reducing the use of pesticides on Egyptian cotton fields by 90%, using 20% less water than generic cotton varieties, and absorbing 3 tons of CO2 per hectare per year, Sekem has transformed cotton farming practices in Egypt.

Since 1977, Sekem has supported over 10,000 farmers in the northeastern Nile Delta to convert over 40,000 acres of land from conventional monoculture to biodynamic farming model that supports rural communities and economies.  In 2024, Sekem and the Egyptian Biodynamic Association (EBDA) were awarded the 2024 Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity for their joint efforts in advocating for the benefits of regenerative agriculture to communities, farmers, economies, and the planet.

The Demeter-certified biodynamic Egyptian cotton grown by Sekem is cleaned, spun, and
woven in the NatureTex GOTS-Certified textile mill located on the SEKEM farm property.

Biodynamic colour

Created with Sketch.

Cultivating botanical dye plants with biodynamic farming methods prioritizes the holistic restoration and enhancement of soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem resilience.

Loads’ seasonal harvests of colour plants from a growing network of biodynamic farm partners are delivered to the Dye Lab at Studio Claudy Jongstra, where they become colourful dye baths for Loads Collection textiles. This small batch dye process, informed by more than 20 years of plant-based pigment research, revives ancient colour-making recipes and techniques.
